water base paint does not mix with oil base paint..now we have oil base enamels cut with paint thinner I have noticed some of our water base enamels are just as bad as the original oil base paint..so many types of paint lacquers enamels oil base latex paint which is water base..shellac cut with alky ..poly urethanes in water base and oil and lacquer polys are very high gloss finish sealers which are a sort of primer with and with out pigment..clear or color.
epoxys which many times have 2-3 additives.I can go on and on and one to bore you even more.You must know what paint to use ove the existing ..or it can get a bit messy and cost to time and money. (read the labels on the paint cans.).
Proper ventalation is important along with wearing a proper respirator..

Im always hearing "anyone can paint " Well that's not true.
PREPAIRING: a surface to paint.. is about 75 percent of the job of painting any project the painting is the easy part .
Always sand glossy finishes before applying primer or finish the paint will adhere to the surface and last much longer.
Preparation of any surface is just as important as finish application...using the proper grid of sand paper will show in the finish product.
I appreciate good craftmenship its a art all to its self.
